Who Are We?

The Twin City Spinners is a not-for-profit volunteer based sports organization dedicated to the promotion, growth and development of Wheelchair Basketball within the Waterloo Region (Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich).

The Twin City Spinners organization is fully inclusive, with members from many different cultures, physical abilities and fiscal backgrounds.  Both the able-bodied and the physically challenged are welcome to participate in this club.

The Twin City Spinners are a member of the Great lake Conference Wheelchair Basketball League.  In the past we have participated at every level of competition the league has to offer.  The division we enter each year is based on the skill and level of participation our players bring each year.

The Twin City Spinners is a member of the OnPara Network; a provincial level organization dedicated to growing opportunities for participation in adaptive sports.  https://onpara.ca/our-sports/wheelchair-basketball/wheelchair-basketball/

The Twin City Spinners club is a supporter and follower of Wheelchair Basketball Canada.  Wheelchair Basketball Canada is the national sport governing body responsible for the organization of wheelchair basketball in Canada. It is a non-profit, charitable organization that is the Canadian member to the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF).   https://www.wheelchairbasketball.ca

The Twin City Spinners Wheelchair Basketball Team was formed in 1976 and joined the Southern Ontario Wheelchair Basketball League in 1977, and the National Wheelchair Basketball Association in 1980, competing throughout Canada and the USA. Through hard work and determination, team members improved their ranking from top 25 in the 1990s to National League Division 2 Champions in 2009.

In more recent times, the Spinners have gained a much more recreational appeal as they focus less on tournaments and more on weekly gatherings to focus on the basic fundamentals of the sport. The team is always looking for more players to bring onto the court.

The TC Spinners are currently run by the husband/wife duo Timothy (coach) and Jacqueline Ross (manager). Coach Tim was picked by the team's former coach and player Bruce Russell, who decided he wanted to retire the role after almost fifty years of supporting the team.
